当校を選んだ理由はなんですか? How did you choose our school?

When I first came to Japan about one year ago, I knew next to no Japanese at all (I only knew the hiragana for “no” and the words honey and medicine in Japanese, for reasons unknown). On my first day at school, I was told that knowing hiragana and katakana was a requirement to begin, something I had completely missed during my application. I wouldn’t really say that I panicked, but at the same time I kind of did since everyone else in my class already knew them, as well as an array of vocabularies.

What was also terrifying in the beginning was the fact that the classes were held entirely in Japanese. But thanks to devoted teachers and simple but fun exercises, it was somehow manageable to comprehend the majority of what was taught during lessons. It’s difficult to explain exactly how that works because I don’t really grasp it myself.

I would consider myself a slow learner when it comes to learning new languages but I am happily surprised to state that I feel that my current level of Japanese is usually enough to get around in a daily life. As soon as you’ve learned the rough basics of Japanese, things start to make a lot more sense (at least personally speaking).

I choose Shibuya Gaigo Gakuin because I was told that the school focuses a lot on spoken Japanese. I am not a learner by books whatsoever but the books used are of nice support. Sometimes the pace can feel a bit slow, and other days you are just on the highway of learning.

学校の感じはどうですか? Tell us anything about school facility, environment, class room, and etc…

At Shibuya Gaigo Gakuin, I get the general feeling that the teachers care about your progress and are very keen on helping those in need of help (read: everyone). The school has a relaxed atmosphere and it doesn’t feel like a dull chore going to school every Monday to Friday. The amount of homework you are usually assigned each week can differ depending on which teacher you have or the general pace/request in your class. Currently, I am in level 4 (out of 10) and I have never felt like the amount of homework was too much to interfere with my daily life after school.

未来の生徒さんに母国語でメッセージをお願いします。Please write something for future student in your native language.

I strongly believe that if you want to learn Japanese in a relaxed yet educational way, Shibuya Gaigo Gakuin is THE school you are looking for. I would personally recommend it to anyone asking me for a recommendation. Apart from studies, you can enjoy school trips to various places, experience the art of Japanese tea ceremony or join international parties held at the school, where you get the chance to meet people from outside your class and also Japanese students… It’s solely up to you, whatever event you choose to participate in. Some of the events are free, and some come with a small fee. Due to how Japanese is taught in this school, you can make the most out of your stay in Japan. After school, you have time to enjoy daily life activities or even work part time if you are eligible to. Moreover, at Shibuya Gaigo Gakuin, you always feel welcomed by the friendly and helpful staff including all the teachers. Please look forward to your first interaction with the school and enjoy your Japanese studies!
